Parade and Festival
We invite your organization and their families to join in the fun on Saturday, April 23rd. We will take to the streets of downtown at 12pm and celebrate the greening of our city with a mile-long parade featuring marching bands, puppets, costumes, and eco-conscious groups who will have information and activities for kids of all ages at our festival post parade at the Umass Lowell Inn and Conference Center. We ask those who are participating in the parade to arrive at the Lowell Parks Visitors Center no later than 11:30am.  Come early that day for face-painting, and contact Peter Mueller or Stephanie Saba to get ideas on how to make puppets, banners, and costumes for this growing annual Lowell tradition!

Trolley Schedule, Parking and Participation

The park will be able to offer 4 shuttles between 2:30pm and 4:00pm (roughly every 1/2 hour) leaving from the Lower Locks trolley stop outside of Middlesex Community College and headed to the Visitor Center trolley stop.

There will also be free parking at the Visitors Center.  To get to the parking lot, attendees can enter 304 Dutton Street, Lowell MA, 01852 as the destination.

If you would like to participate in the parade or hold a table at the festival,  please fill out this form

Urban Growers Gathering
Starting at 10am at the Umass Lowell Inn and Conference Center, Mill City Grows meets the excitement and energy of the season with the annual Urban Growers Gathering – an event to equip city growers with the resources needed to maximize their growing potential and infuse gardeners with an excitement for the growing season. The Urban Growers Gathering is an opportunity for diverse gardeners in Lowell to unify around food, while exploring some of Mill City Grows deepest values of food justice, food access, partnership, education and resourcefulness.

Joining forces with the Earth Day Festival & Parade, the Urban Growers Gathering will incorporate gardening and food into the mix of Lowell’s many sustainability efforts. Mill City Grows will lead dynamic workshops to enhance basic garden skills, connect residents with opportunities to grow and eat healthy foods, organize a seed exchange, link gardeners to useful tools in and around the city, and feature inspiring remarks from our Keynote speaker Greg Watson.
